THE IMMIGRANT IS STAYING!

Friday, March 22, 2019, 8pm

It’s Comedy Night at The Africa Center! Join us for ‘THE IMMIGRANT IS STAYING’!

As a black, Muslim, immigrant living in New York City, Mohamed uses comedy to reclaim the ‘American Dream’, a dream which has been immortalized by hard-working immigrants. This show will be a journey of self-discovery, identity, and an eye-opening look behind the curtain and into the life of a millennial immigrant living in America. The show aims to empower all the immigrants and outsiders who have grown up in constant search of a home. All of Mohamed’s shows raise funds for charitable organizations and institutions which push the importance of positive change.

Mohamed has lived a nomadic life; he was born in Muscat, Oman, grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and is currently based in New York. While he is a New Zealand citizen, his origins are in Sudan, a nation which until recently fell under the US travel ban. Comedy has always been a way for him to feel grounded within his uniquely ungrounded lifestyle. On stage, he feels accepted in a way that he never was as a child bouncing between 11 homes on three continents.

As an award-winning comic, a major label signed musician and creative, Mohamed has been able to travel the globe and experience a multitude of cultures and environments. But, it’s in New York City that he’s finally found his home, in the city of nomads and endless possibilities.
