Flags of The African Union

Outdoor Public Art Tribute
Ongoing

The Africa Center is proud to present Flags of the African Union (AU), a three-story outdoor public art tribute featuring the 55 flags of the countries recognized by the AU. In addition, we’ve added the Pan-African flag which serves as a unifying symbol for people of African descent, regardless of their geographical location. This display is a bold statement and a celebration of a continent that is richly diverse, not only geographically but also culturally, socially, and economically.

The installation is a timely reminder that Africa is far from being a monolith. It is a vast continent comprising 55 distinct nations. Each nation’s flag symbolizes a unique cultural heritage, a complex history, and a specific national identity. Together, they stand as a united front, representing the African Union’s commitment as a global institution to promoting peace, security, and solidarity across the continent.

The Flags of the African Union installation at The Africa Center serves as both an educational tool and a source of inspiration. We invite visitors to explore the flags, learn about the diverse nations they represent, and reflect on the common threads that unite Africa, African people, and the African Diaspora across the world
